Baked Churros

These churros are so delicious and addictive, they are crispy on the outside, crunchy with the delicious cinnamon (with a little touch of nutmeg) sugar coating and of course, the rich, a little bitter chocolate sauce to dip them into!

I really hope you try this recipe, I am sure you will love it, it's way easier to make than you think and way less dangerous because we are not frying them!

I don't tell you how to make the cinnamon sugar or the measurements for it because it really depends on what you have at home and how much you like each ingredient. if you have leftovers, don't worry you can store and then sprinkle over anything you like, or use it to make cinnamon buns and stollen, recipe coming soon!

Ingredients:

  • 225g water

  • 110g butter

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • 35 g brown sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 150g plain flour/ all-purpose flour

  • 4 eggs, at room temperature

  • Icing sugar

  • 50 g melted butter, for brushing

  • Cinnamon sugar: Made out of caster sugar, demerara sugar, soft brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg

Recipe:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and place a Silpat or baking parchment on 2 baking trays.

  2. Place the water + butter + vanilla + salt + brown sugar in a saucepan on low heat.

  3. Once the butter is melted, add in the flour all at once and mix on low heat until a ball of dough forms. Continue cooking for about 2 minutes until the dough starts sticking a little to the bottom of the saucepan.

  4. Place the dough in the bowl of the stand mixer and then add in the eggs one by one, until a shiny and elastic dough forms, when you lift up a spoon of it and the dough falls off the spoon, the dough remaining hanging off the spoon should form a "V" shape.

  5. Place in a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle.

  6. Pipe out thick strips and then throw on little drops of water + dust with icing sugar.

  7. Cook for 20 minutes in preheated oven and then drop the heat down to 160°C and bake for another 20 minutes or until golden and hard on the bottom.

  8. Leave to cool on a baking rack.

  9. Brush with a pastry brush with melted butter.

  10. Sprinkle on the cinnamon sugar.

Your baked churros are ready! I bet you won't be able to keep these for more than 2 days, they're so addictive!
